We took the family on a quick cross country trip to visit Great-Grandpa Red in Pensacola. It was our first time on an airplane since the long trip home. This time went quite a bit smoother (9 hours shorter 9 less time zones helps). Both boys were excited to explore the airport, and to look out the window on the ascent and descent. Now if we could just do away with the whole cruise period, this flying gig would be easy!

The whole Phillips clan came to town for the event. Dave flew in a couple of days before, while the four of us, as well as Kathy and Andrew arrived in Mobile on 3 separate planes within 10 minutes of each other. We drove strait over to Red’s house from the airport Friday afternoon for the first of three short visits with Grandpop. We thought it would be best to break the visit into multiple small chunks to limit his doses of 4 year-old boy energy. The visits went exceedingly well. The boys warmed right up to Red within a few minutes, no one got hurt, and nothing was broken!

We stayed in a condo on the bay about 15 minutes from Red’s. There was a small private beach with calm water that provided an excellent introduction to the beach. Later on Saturday, we went over to the other side of the peninsula for some white sand and bigger waves. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

  1. I love the last two photos in the gallery here. What a memorable family photo and the multiple generations photo in the last. Grandpa Red looks so good. What a special trip. Love, Jenny

  2. Once again some GREAT pictures! Having spent so much time at the beach when I was that age, I can’t help but wonder what they were thinking and feeling… as they smelled the salt air for the first time, albeit at one of this countries prettiest beaches. Obviously, a special time for all!
