Lara and I felt badly about putting Bacchus in a kenel while we were galavanting around California, so we decided to take him to the off-leash dog pond at Chatfield Reservoir. He wasn’t all that interested in the water at first. We had to coax him just to wade in. We’d try throwing sticks and running with him up to the water’s edge, but he’d always stop about 3 feet in.
Then his instincts kicked in. Once he finally lifted his paws off the bottom and started paddling, he was hooked. In no time, he was leaping full speed into the water and fetching everything we (or anyone else for that matter) would throw. He got a little carried away with himself, swimming out to take other dog’s toys and sticks before they could get there. Perhaps we’ve created a monster…
