We brought home a golden retriever puppy on August 29, 2003. All of the puppies in the litter were being given names starting with “L”, in honor of their mother Lucy. We walked away with the intention of naming him “Louie”, after our favorite character in Casablanca. In the end, we decided to name him “Bacchus” (the Roman god of wine). Our friends would know that his apropos.
Here’s Bacchus and Lara in the car on the ride home from the breeders. Note the towel on Lara’s lap. The breeder was about an hour’s drive from our house, and Lara was none to thrilled about having a non-housebroken puppy on her lap the entire ride!
Once we got home, we immediately took him out in the back yard for a little relief. He wasn’t too thrilled about using the pea gravel as a pee spot. Chris kept close by to encourage him, but to no avail.
When we got back inside, it was time for a little play. Chris and Bacchus did a little wrestling on the family room floor, but as soon as he heard the shutter on the camera click, he came running the other way. I guess we have a camera hound on our hands.
After a few minutes of play, Bacchus was pretty tuckered out. He decided to plop down on the kitchen floor and have a little nap. I guess puppies are pretty flexible! As he slept, we were able to creep in for a nice close-up. Ain’t he cute?
