Our summer break this year was a road trip to Minnesota. We spent a few days at Uncle Ron’s cabin in Alexandria, in what turned into an impromptu family reunion. The kids all hit it off pretty quickly, and were soon splashing all over each other in the lake. We took several turns on the tube, swam around the lily pad, and cruised on the boat. The boys became addicted to fishing, and spent hours on the dock reeling in one catch after another. Alex even had enough luck that he was catching fish with no bait!
It was a pretty typical Nelson reunion, complete with a slate of games including a soccer match, sand volleyball, corn hole, lawn golf, and a biggest fish contest. It was great fun, and we all enjoyed a little time in the sun.
We also stopped in Lakefield, where we lit some more fireworks with Grandma and Grandpa and ignited a massive water balloon battle among the boys. We spent a day riding the rides and stomping around the Tipsy House at Arnold’s Park before heading back home via Rapid City. We got a room at a hotel with a built in water park, which the boys loved. We were able to pull them away long enough to swing by Mount Rushmore for a little site seeing before heading back home.
It was an action and driving-packed week, but everyone had a great time playing and visiting.
