Checking Out the Park

Our first family shot at home

We had a pretty slow morning. I was still sending back all of my food through the day, so I wasn’t able to help too much. Lara handled things through lunch like a champ. Then we went to meet our friends Matt and Michelle, with their 3 year-old twins, Ali and Nissa, at the park [...] . . . → Read More: Checking Out the Park

There’s No Place Like Home

The boys enjoying their new backyard early Friday morning

Boy, do I now really appreciate what Dorothy was saying in the Wizard of Oz. We had an early start to the day, but I guess it’s no surprise that the boys don’t quite have “jet lag” figured out. They came to get us at 4:00. We finally conceded defeat and got up for good [...] . . . → Read More: There’s No Place Like Home

Home At Last!

Sorry to paraphrase the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, but that’s the kind of emotion we both feel right now. Jubilant, relieved, and incredibly exhausted.  We made it home safe and sound.  After some initial trepidation coming into a big house (which we got on video by the way), the boys took to their new [...] . . . → Read More: Home At Last!

Welcome to the USA

As of 4:20pm EDT on September 29, 2011, the US has 2 new citizens named Evan and Alex Waters. We’re just taking a brief moment here in the Dulles Red Carpet Club before we run off for some dinner, and then the next flight. The leg from Moscow may not have been the nightmare we [...] . . . → Read More: Welcome to the USA

Do Svidanya Rodina

For those Tom Clancy fans out there, the title of this post is also the title of a song in the movie “The Hunt for Red October”. It means something like, “goodbye, mother Russia”. This post is coming exceptionally late, because I let Lara exercise her “electronics death touch” earlier, and I’ve had to battle [...] . . . → Read More: Do Svidanya Rodina

Visas In Hand

The gang in front of GUM department store

The big news today is that we have the boys’ visas, birth certificates, and adoption decrees all in hand (well, Olga’s hands actually), and we are now authorized to bring the children into the USA! The last step in the process here is to register the boys with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which [...] . . . → Read More: Visas In Hand

The Rabbit’s Name is “Pe-uke”

The good news is that Olga called tonight and it sounds like she was able to accomplish the things she needed to do today for us.  So Mila will take us to the Embassy tomorrow morning, Olga will meet us with (hopefully) all of our necessary paperwork, and we’ll be able to post tomorrow night [...] . . . → Read More: The Rabbit’s Name is “Pe-uke”

Sunday in Moscow

Nothing too adventurous happened today. The doctor came by at 7am. Despite the fact that such an early call on a Sunday made our hostess more than a bit annoyed, there were no glitches. He believes both boys are healthy, and won’t require any special follow-up when we get home. Of course, we’ll have our [...] . . . → Read More: Sunday in Moscow

Hangin Around

Alex is obviously enjoying the playground

Yes, we’ve arrived in Moscow. The train ride went pretty well. The boys were pretty groggy when we woke them up to go the station, but other than a discomfort to waking up with different people in the apartment, there were no signs of fear from either of them. Evan was thrilled to see a [...] . . . → Read More: Hangin Around

Leaving Bryansk

This is it. We are leaving Bryansk for the last time. We received the boys’ Russian passports today. It was a last minute affair, to be sure. In this new system, all passports are issued from Moscow. They are only sent to the provinces 3x per week, M/W/F. Ours were ready on Wednesday, but didn’t [...] . . . → Read More: Leaving Bryansk
